Employment & Training Services

Assists job seekers looking for their first job, their next job, a better job - or a whole new career, and is the place for employers to find workers, the resources to help train them, and other information need to compete in today's economy.

Services are provided for those who have never been fully  employed as well as those who lose their jobs due to a layoff.  Assistance includes career guidance, skill assessment, guidance in where and how to look for a job, and training in how to remain successfully employed, and occupational skills training for those who qualify.

Though all programs offer a mix of these services, each one serves a specific target group including youth, eligible adults, dislocated workers, or employers. The CareerCenter in Presque Isle and ACAP Employment & Training offices in Madawaska and Houlton provide quality information to the public about jobs, the dynamics of labor markets, available training and education opportunities, and links to other public and private service agencies. Employers are offered assistance with meeting their employment needs. The following programs are offered at the Presque Isle Career Center and ACAP Employment & Training offices in Madawaska and Houlton:

• INFORMATION CENTER (Presque Isle) - a library of resource material, including computer technology, that offers individuals, regardless of their income, an opportunity to access labor market and career information, and to initiate job searches.
• WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA) SERVICES:
  • Adult Program - Employment and re-employment services to eligible adults.
  • Dislocated Worker Program - Training, education and re-employment services for workers who lose their jobs due to layoffs or plant closings.
  • Youth Program - Individualized services to eligible youth, including tutoring, alternative secondary school opportunities, preparation for occupational training or education, summer employment linked to learning, internships, mentoring, leadership development, guidance, counseling, and extensive follow up.
