SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD FOR WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN (WIC)

  • Provides nutrition, education and screening to eligible pregnant and postpartum women, nursing mothers, infants and children under five years of age.
  • Identifies high-risk clients; provides a select group of nutritious foods (based on dietary needs); and serves as an adjunct to good health care during critical times of growth and development to prevent health problems and to improve the health of persons at risk.

ORAL HEALTH EDUCATION

  • Directs a consolidated School Oral Health Program for seven small schools.
  • Serves as a resource for oral health programs in all other elementary school programs in Aroostook County.
  • Administers a Dental Sealant Program for second grade students in all schools in Aroostook County.
  • Maintains an extensive dental health lending library, including audiovisual materials and teaching aids, which are available for loan to individuals or groups.
  • Serves people of all ages throughout Aroostook County in cooperation with other social service and health care providers.

KIDS INTEGRATED DENTAL SERVICES (KIDS)

  • A new dental services program that provides clinical assessments, oral prophylaxis, flouride treatments, referrals and oral hygiene instructions for eligible children enrolled in Aroostook WIC and Head Start programs and their eligible family members up to age 18.

THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEFAP)

  • Coordinates the distribution of USDA Surplus Commodity Food through hunger-prevention organizations in Aroostook County.

THE MAINE SENIOR FARMSHARE

  • Coordinates the allocation of bulk shares for local farmers and food pantries to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to eligible people 60 years of age and over.
