Community Invited to Help Shape the New Name of the Region’s Three‑County Community Action Agency

As work continues on schedule toward the formation of a new three‑county Community Action Agency, Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties (CAAWHC) is inviting residents across the region to participate in an online Community Survey focused specifically on helping choose the new name for the organization. The survey will remain open through March 18.

Since late last summer, the Agency has been operating under the interim name Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties as part of a planned transition to a unified, modern organization serving all three counties. The permanent name and brand—expected to launch later this summer—will reflect the identity, values, and aspirations of the communities the Agency serves.

Significant work has already taken place to shape the future of the three‑county agency. In early November, more than 70 consumers, community leaders, agency partners, and local officials from across Aroostook, Washington, and Hancock Counties participated in a full‑day work session to help define priorities, opportunities, and expectations for the new organization. Their insights continue to guide the Agency’s development.

A Nominating Committee with representation from all three counties is also actively recruiting Board Members from across the region. This newly constituted Board of Directors is expected to be seated by the end of May and will play a central role in steering the Agency through its next phase.

This transformation is a strategic restructuring—not a merger—designed to build a sustainable, regionally responsive Community Action Agency. All programs transitioning from Downeast Community Partners (DCP) officially moved under the Agency effective October 2025, ensuring continuity of services and strengthening capacity across all three counties.

The Community Survey invites residents, clients, partners, and stakeholders to share their perspective on:

  • How they currently view the Agency and its role
  • What strengths they believe should be highlighted
  • Opportunities for growth and community impact
  • What qualities the new name and brand should convey

All responses are confidential and will directly inform the development of the new agency identity, ensuring it is shaped by the people who know the region best.

“We are entering a new chapter for Community Action in our region,” said Jason Parent, CEO. “This is a once‑in‑a‑generation opportunity to shape how our mission is communicated and understood. Community and team member feedback, together with the expertise of our branding partners at Warp + Weft, will help us create a brand that reflects who we are and the future we’re building together.”

Residents from across Aroostook, Washington, and Hancock Counties are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete the survey and help influence the direction of this transformative regional initiative.
