Friendship Cottage to Host Community Open House on Jan. 16

Friendship Cottage, a program of Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties, adult day services for older adults and adults facing physical, mental, or memory challenges, will host a community Open House on Friday, January 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Friendship Cottage has been in the news lately as the transition of the service from the former Downeast Community Partners to the new entity Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties, has called into question ownership of the property and facility in Blue Hill where services are offered.  A comprehensive effort to sustain the service is underway with community volunteers, donors and agency leaders all working together on next steps to continue the vital programming in Hancock County.  One of those measures is hosting this open house to make the public aware of the services and to demonstrate the high need in a region that is underserved with such care programs for older adults and others needing such day services.

Located in Blue Hill, Friendship Cottage offers a safe, supportive, and homelike environment where participants receive socialization, structured activities, and compassionate care. Staffed by trained professionals—including a certified medication aide to ensure medications are taken at proper times—Friendship Cottage supports dependent adults while offering families and caregivers valuable respite.

The Open House invites community members, caregivers, healthcare partners, and local organizations to tour the facility, meet staff, and learn more about the services available. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore Friendship Cottage’s welcoming, activity focused environment
  • Meet the dedicated care team
  • Learn about program offerings, including group activities that encourage community involvement
  • Ask questions about enrollment, MaineCare coverage, and other funding options

“Friendship Cottage is an essential resource for families in our region,” said Anne Ossanna, Program Coordinator. “This Open House is a chance for the community to see firsthand how we support adults who need daily assistance while helping them stay engaged, active, and connected.”

Light refreshments will be provided. No registration is required.
