As winter approaches and energy costs remain high, the eighth annual Helping Hands Telethon is set to return on Thursday, October 23, 2025, offering critical support to Aroostook County residents facing heating emergencies.
Hosted by ACAP/Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties, United Way of Aroostook, and WAGM-TV, the telethon raises funds to assist households that fall through the cracks of traditional energy assistance programs. These include families dealing with job loss, seniors on fixed incomes, and individuals with serious medical conditions.
“Thanks to past generosity, many of our neighbors stayed warm when it mattered most,” said Jason Parent, Executive Director/CEO of Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties. “These funds have helped families regain stability and avoid future crises.”
One local mother shared her experience:
“This helped my family tremendously keeping my children warm. I have been working but can only work part time due to having chemo treatments, so I appreciate everything ACAP has done to help during these challenging times.” — Aroostook County resident, age 50
In addition to emergency fuel, donations connect recipients to long-term support services such as budgeting assistance and workforce development—tools that help prevent future emergencies.

“Together, we can ensure our most vulnerable neighbors receive the support they need this winter,” said Sarah Duncan, Executive Director of United Way of Aroostook. “Every dollar makes a difference.”
